Devotion on Psalm 133

Unity

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; (Ps. 133:1-2)

The precious oil is being used as an illustration of “brothers dwelling together in unity.”

Most of us will ask how does that make sense?

The answer is found in Exodus 30:22-25

Moreover the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Take thou also unto thee principal spices, of pure myrrh five hundred shekels, and of sweet cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of sweet calamus two hundred and fifty shekels, And of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive an hin: And thou shalt make it an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of the apothecary: it shall be an holy anointing oil.

God told Moses to take a measure of pure Myrrh, sweet cinnamon, sweet calamus, Cassia and olive oil.

Verse 25:- you should make a holy ointment and it shall be holy oil of anointingFurther verse 30 you should anoint Aaron and his sons with the holy oil.

The oil used to anoint Aaron was holy anointing oil.

The holy anointing oil was a mixture of four spices in oil. The spices were myrrh, cinnamon, calamus/cane, and cassia. The spices were mixed together in olive oil. They were different spices mixed together to make a wonderful fragrance – a holy oil. What a picture of unity. It is a picture of very different people, yet people who are united.

When these spices were mixed with oil, the oil became holy oil. It was not the oil that was holy but the mixture. By themselves the spices could not make a holy oil. But each spice with a measure makes it holy anointing oil.

The body of Jesus Christ is made up of all types of people.

He has mixed different spices together and called it the body of Jesus Christ –⛪ the church – Christians! He calls us to live in harmony and unity. We are family! The Holy anointing oil is a mixture of five ingredients. five is a number of GRACE. its His Grace that keeps us together in unity.

The psalm goes on to say in verse 3

"As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore." The unity here is also compared with the dew of Hermon.

Now how dew can be an example of unity?

First of all, dew is significant because God says, "I will be as the dew unto Israel" (Hos 14:5)

Mt. Hermon, is in the Northern side, and the highest 🏔peak. It's tip is ice cold. when the morning dew is evaporated it gets trapped in the cool temperature and gradually drips down. these drips💧💧💧 converts into tributaries💦 and come together as the Jordan River🌊 watering the entire Israel.

What a powerful impact the gathering of the brethren. it comes down, feeding and helping the entire nation to sustain.

Hallelujah!!
